For a full picture, you should take into account that:
🙅♂️The UK spent c£47bn shielding billpayers from the recent gas crisis - which is effectively a gas subsidy.
💵That wind energy have saved billpayers £104bn since 2010, by lowering wholesale prices.
⚡️That after 60+ years, the nuclear industry are not talking about all their future projects 'standing on their own feet without subsidy' because Govt can take a strategic role in de-risking investment in energy infrastructure, lowering costs to the benefit of everyone.
We need to be investing in all clean energy generation to meet the huge increase in demand, whilst finding ways to lower the cost of all generation across the board (maybe we could look again at those Crown Estate fees for a start) and finding the optimum mix of tech - taking account all system costs etc.

During that quarter century you’ve enjoyed over £30 billion in direct subsidies (plus many more billions in indirect subsidies) for offshore wind alone. Yet still you require more subsidy for further expansion. And despite repeated claims to being cheaper — when all costs are included you remain very far from cheap. If you were as cheap as you claim you wouldn’t need all that subsidy. Plus the cost of job creation per job is astronomical. But you have proved the most efficient mechanism since medieval times for transferring money from the poor to the rich, including Crown Estates.
