Trump tried four times in recent weeks to reach Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by phone, but Modi has refused to take the calls. This was reported by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. According to the article, Modi is said to be "offended" after Trump called India's economy "dead" and imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports over New Delhi's continued purchases of Russian oil. The new measures, which take effect on August 27, will bring total U.S. tariffs on Indian imports to 50%. New Delhi has deemed Washington's actions "unfair and unjustified" and has continued buying Russian oil. A U.S. delegation was expected to travel to India this week to negotiate a trade deal, but the visit is no longer planned, the paper wrote.
