Last week I wrapped up a 10 week coaching course with @DSBatten Daniel Batten, and here is how it massively upgraded my leadership: Founders often think they are upgrading their company, without realising how much their company is upgrading them - if they're perceptive enough. Daniel pushed me to think more deeply about my blind spots than I ever have, and my biggest insights flowed from the mental frameworks I built on his advice. Daniel helped me realise that a company is usually waiting for the founder to upgrade themselves first! So off I went... Three insights that hit me harder than I expected: 1. The highest form of leadership is unlearning. Great founders shed habits that no longer serve the mission. Daniel taught me to interrogate my defaults, dismantle outdated beliefs, and rebuild from first principles. I am now in the process of simplifying and shedding many areas of my business that are noise, and paying attention to the signal. 2. Most leadership problems are intrapersonal. The conflict is rarely between you and another person. The real conflict is between the leader you are and the leader the company needs you to be. Daniel helped me dissolve that gap. The hardest person I have ever had to reckon with is myself! 3. A powerful vision must be lived. Many founders can articulate a mission. Few can embody it. Daniel’s coaching helped me reconnect my long term vision with the behavioural discipline required to make it real, authentic and convincing. If you want your company to scale, start by scaling the person in the mirror. Daniel is one of the most perceptive, rigorous and transformative coaches I have encountered. And beyond the coaching, I feel I have made a lifelong friend who is in my corner, genuinely interested in what I'm building and invested in my growth as a person and business leader.
