It was this day 10 years ago, 30th of July 2015, that we changed the world forever. We were a small team of hackers in an office in Kreuzberg in Berlin and we had just launched the @ethereum network. Launch day, 10 years ago. This team (and some others not in the pic) built Ethereum. The photo was taken on July 30th 2015 in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Ethereum was launched, never to be stopped again. A trust machine, a decentralized ledger, a transactional singleton machine with shared-state, a platform for decentralized applications, a blockchain. Today is the 10th anniversary of Ethereum. I first heard about @VitalikButerin in 2014 from @naval on a walk. This "really smart russian kid building a world computer" if I'm remembering correctly. Sadly, I wasn't smart enough to invest in the ICO. But I did get to back Coinbase, whose growth was largely enabled then by EVMs and now again with @base and @USDC. Ethereum inspired us to incubate or seed many great teams like @zora @bitski @dydx @goldfinch_fi in the ecosystem. Going deeper, I came to co-author an ERC standard, EIP-6551, with @bennygiang, and continue the exploration. Ethereum has enabled so many new product areas and behaviors: stablecoins, DeFi, NFTs, asset tokenization, etc and inspired even many new smart contract platforms. A few years ago, @ljixie and @OptimistFilms asked me to be Executive Producer of a documentary about Vitalik and the Ethereum community. I jumped at the chance and it's been awesome to see the film tell the story about Vitalik's vision for a more fair and decentralized Internet to the mainstream audience. If you're curious about the beginnings of Ethereum, the film is available on most of the streaming platforms like AppleTV, Amazon, etc. Happy 10th @ethereum!

Today, we celebrate 10 years of Ethereum! With a market capitalization of over $450 billion, Ethereum is very well positioned to serve institutions, and its 10th birthday is a major unlock as blockchain institutionalization goes mainstream.  Here’s why: History: 10 years of history is a very meaningful milestone for traditional institutions. In traditional finance, regulator-approved risk models often require 10 years of historical data. Ethereum now has 10 years of history without outages, and $ETH has 10 years of historical pricing data.  No exceptions needed; it just fits. Modularity: The modularity offered through Ethereum and its layer-2 roadmap offers customization and controls that many institutions will demand. Institutions can customize and optimize infrastructure for specific applications or use cases--while still benefitting from the security of Ethereum’s ~1mm validators. Ethereum mi ha dato la meravigliosa vita che ho oggi. Ho incontrato mia moglie @lisacuesta a una firma di libri che non sarebbe stata scritta se Ethereum non esistesse. Il mio primo lavoro a tempo pieno nel settore crypto è stato presso @Consensys, mentre Joe spendeva soldi per assumere i migliori talenti e supportare l'ecosistema di Ethereum. Sono entrato in Bison Trails perché ero uno dei principali organizzatori di @EthereumDenver quell'anno e qualcuno che ho incontrato mi ha messo in contatto con il CEO. Ci sono così tante storie, ma oggi vi racconterò la mia preferita: come ho costruito il mio primo e ultimo miner di Ethereum. Il mio amico delle superiori e ora compagno di squadra in Coinbase @0xb17z era già nel mondo crypto ed è stato fondamentale per aiutarmi a imparare. Non ero tecnico e volevo davvero costruire un miner di Ethereum da zero per capire come si incastrano i pezzi. Nel 2017/18 TUTTI e le loro madri stavano cercando di fare lo stesso, quindi le GPU erano quasi impossibili da trovare. Alla fine siamo riusciti a mettere insieme 6 Nvidia GTX 1070 nel corso di mesi mentre aspettavamo il riassortimento e avevamo bisogno di amici per andare a comprare al nostro posto perché lasciavano comprare solo una al mese. A un certo punto avevamo tutto collegato, ma quel maledetto coso non si connetteva al wifi. Abbiamo provato per settimane a farlo funzionare; abbiamo aggiornato tutti i driver, abbiamo cercato ogni potenziale problema e controllato ogni ultima guida all'installazione dell'hardware. Mentre stavamo per arrenderci, ho controllato il sito web della scheda madre per vedere le sue specifiche. QUEL MALDETTO COSO NON AVEVA IL WIFI. Abbiamo collegato un cavo Ethernet e ha funzionato immediatamente. Come ho imparato rapidamente, queste cose sono CALDE e RUMOROSE. All'epoca vivevo con mia madre mentre lavoravo da EY e non appena mi sono trasferito, lei l'ha spento, l'ha infilato nell'armadio e lì è rimasto per oltre un anno fino a quando non l'abbiamo venduto per pezzi. In totale ho speso oltre 5k$ per minare circa 1.2 ETH, quindi non appena ETH raggiunge 5k$ finalmente pareggerò i conti. Per le foto: 1. Non sapevamo quanto wattaggio potesse gestire la mia stanza e se potesse supportare le 6 GPU. Non avevamo nemmeno lo strumento costoso per misurarlo. Così un altro amico ed io siamo andati da Costco, abbiamo comprato un sacco di ferri da stiro e li abbiamo accesi uno alla volta per vedere quando il fusibile sarebbe saltato. Fortunatamente Costco è generoso con la loro politica di reso. 2. La scheda madre in questione. 3. Ben ha aiutato a vendere tutti i pezzi, ma ha tenuto una delle GPU per me. Potrebbe essere stato solo pigro, ma scelgo di credere che l'abbia fatto intenzionalmente kek. È la prima cosa che ho mai incorniciato e pende nel mio ufficio come promemoria di come ho iniziato e cosa sto facendo qui. Dice "Mantenendo Ethereum decentralizzato dal 2017" - parole che vivo ancora oggi. Quando sono entrato nel mondo crypto nel 2017 mi sono sentito così in ritardo. Immagino sia come si sentono molte persone oggi. Ma ora, 8 anni dopo, guardo indietro e realizzo che sono stato presente per l'80% della vita di Ethereum. Spero che i nuovi arrivati nel settore si rendano conto che Ethereum è solo all'inizio e, per quanto sia fantastico celebrare il suo decimo anniversario, spero che guardino avanti e si rendano conto che ci sono molti decenni, e persino secoli, da affrontare. Siamo tutti ancora molto, molto all'inizio e c'è molto lavoro da fare per portare il mondo onchain.
